More on the self-publishing angle . . .

So I’ve been looking up information about a couple of sites that a lot of people seem to like, CreateSpace.com and Lulu.com, both of which offer pretty attractive elf-publishing packages.  CreateSpace has direct ties to Amazon.com and thus gives authors an automatic distribution path; I’m a little less clear on how Lulu.com operates.

Anyone have any experiences with either of these?  Or some other site?

  1. I haven’t gone this route, yet, but I’ve looked into CreateSpace.com a good bit. I don’t know about Lulu. CreateSpace is nice because you don’t actually order a set number of books. As people order your book it gets made and shipped off. You upload the book, along with your cover, so they have your material on file. An order comes in, it gets made, and then you get royalties, done.

There is a more expensive option through them, where you book gets registered with a larger market. You pay an annual fee, they upload your book’s information, buyers at Borders, Wal-Mart, etc. are then able to purchase it for their stores. If you’re serious about your book getting out there, the more expensive option is the way to go, otherwise only Amazon customers will see it.
